TechLab

What's it About?

How are new ideas born? How do they become real products? And what does open source mean? You can find out in our TechLab!

Produce, Learn, Do it Yourself!

The TechLab at the Deutsches Technikmuseum is a creative space for digital manufacturing, hands-on invention, and sustainable design. This interactive exhibition showcases how digital production technologies work and the exciting possibilities they offer. The focus is on modern technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and other computer-aided manufacturing processes. A special highlight is the LaserDuo—a powerful laser cutter that enables precise cuts in wood and acrylic.

Also Suitable for Children!

A variety of hands-on activities invite all visitors to try out 3D printers, laser cutters, and other high-tech tools for themselves. Exciting demonstrations provide insights into how the machines work. In the open workshop, visitors can bring their own ideas to life, repair items, or experiment with new techniques.

There is also a wide variety of activities specifically for school groups and families: Workshops teach participants how to create innovative objects from simple materials or how to easily repair everyday items

A Space for Experimentation!

The TechLab is a space for experimentation, research, and hands-on projects — whether you have prior experience or not. Just stop by — we look forward to seeing you! We’ll also soon be offering programs for school groups that can be booked in advance.

The TechLab was made possible by funding from the museum’s support association, the „Freunde und Förderer des Deutschen Technikmuseums Berlin e.V.“

In front of a display panel with text and images bearing the caption “From Bottle to Lamp,” a girl and a boy are working together to screw empty plastic bottles into a plastic socket. The result is a lamp with a funny shape.

Where Can I Find the TechLab?

The TechLab is located in the main building, on the ground floor of the “Beamtenhaus” museum section, between the two locomotive sheds.

Two boys are standing in front of a sign that reads “Welcome to the TechLab—our makerspace” in German and English. They are reading the text. Next to it hangs a monitor with a blue border.

Opening Hours and Programs

The TechLab is open during the museum's regular hours. A staff member is always on site during these hours. See below for information on workshops and bookable programs.
